About Me
Temporary words because Idk what the fuck to put here but trust there will be things I NEED MORE WORDS
My Internet History
Forewarning! I am autistic and love rambling, this will not be a "short" history.
I have spent an unreasonable amount of time on the internet through my life. I started on the internet when I was maybe 4? Not 100% sure on that, but when I was really young I started my internet journey the way I think most people around my age started, on the public household computer. Though, for the first few years we had it I didn't even know that was an option, I just played I Spy: Funhouse constantly and thought that was all a computer could be used for. I technically saw my mother posting on Facebook a couple times but I didn't know what she was doing, I stood way too close and breathed on her arm while I watched her type her status and LOVED the way the site looked, it was so intriguing to me. Then when I was around 7 I helped design a website for rabbits I was helping to raise and I don't think either of us did any actual coding(This was right after WIX either came out or started putting out ads all the time) but I was still so proud of it for weeks after.
However, my very first online experience on my own was with a Pinterest account. I started with just making boards for birthday parties, bedroom decor, foods, etc. etc. But then I very quickly started finding other things on Pinterest, like early memes and Tumblr posts reposted to Pinterest(Man that started early on, huh). Then around the same time as I made the Pinterest account I also had made a YouTube account. When I made the YouTube account I first was just watching music videos, but then I discovered Minecraft YouTubers. I started watching DanTDM, PopularMMOs, StampyLongNose, all of the most popular ones and a lot of less popular ones(Who would later become much more popular). Then later on I discovered Aphmau and all of her series but that's a massive can of worms and we can ignore that and the impact it had on me(No we can't).
Anywho, after all that, the first thing that actually felt like social media to me was Minecraft servers. I had been playing Minecraft way before that moment, like as soon as it came out for the phone, and I used to play with my siblings on multiplayer Minecraft PE but that doesn't really count. My first actual online experience with Minecraft was when I got my second laptop(around 2013 I think, first one I got in 2011 and that was just used for The Sims 3) and realized it wasn't just the Minecraft YouTubers who could play it online. I then immediately started playing on every server that I could find.
When I started playing online, I was constantly making friends and kept forgetting all but the "most important" ones(The ones I had the most interesting conversations with). Almost all of the servers I used to play were online survival, where each person had their own plots and could build their own things surrounded by other people. I almost always made very small houses or cafes where I would sell cookies and cakes, the most important foods in the whole game. But then my younger sibling got a laptop, too, and we started playing online together on mini game servers like Hypixel, Mineplex, and The Hive. At some point, though, we stopped focusing on the mini games on those servers and realized there was a thing on Hypixel called "Housing" where you could join other people and look at their creations or you could go to your own Housing plot and make your own.
In Hypixel housing, there was a whole great big community full of other communities, it was full of mostly builders and roleplayers, which made for a very fun mix. There were all these people building big elaborate things and filling their elaborate buildings with people who liked the same things as them and who wanted to roleplay these things! My personal favorite was Undertale(and if anyone ever mentions anything about my housing, I'm dying on the spot), but eventually I stumbled into people who liked a game called "Overwatch". I had never heard of this game before and immediately got interested because there were so many interesting character designs and that was so fun!
Overwatch is a 13+ first person shooter(or FPS). When I found out about it, I was closer to 11 or 12, so I just watched YouTubers playing it and making content about it(Which opened up a whole new subsection of the internet). Then, when I was finally 13, I got it for my birthday. That was arguably the best birthday gift I ever got because, despite the negatives that came from it, I wouldn't be writing this right now nor would I have any of my current friends or relationships I currently have if not for that. Anywho, for the first month of playing the game I just played it normally.
Then, around New Years, I discovered a button I hadn't even seen before, "Custom Games". So, of course, I started looking around at these custom games, and I found so many interesting ones and they were so fun! After a bit of jumping around, however, I saw one labeled something like "New Years Chill Lobby, No Kill, Match VC Open" and I was so excited by the idea of being able to just hang out with people in this new environment. It was so exciting to join and hear people talking about anything and everything, people were running around in the game destroying the environment and doing laps around the map while out loud they were talking about movies, their jobs, memes they saw, musicals, so many different things.
Now, a bit of an important thing to note, right around this time on Pinterest I had been finding out about a lot of musicals. Heathers, Hamilton, Be More Chill, Dear Evan Hansen, and quite a few more but those were the ones I got really into at the time. But, when I heard these people talking about and even singing songs from these musicals, I felt like I was right at home! I found people who liked the same things as me and it felt great! I became friends with almost everyone in the 20 person lobby and was so excited about having friends!
Then, after a couple of days, one of my new friends asked if I had a "Discord" account. I didn't even know what Discord was, but then had an account for it in less than 10 minutes and was in a server of over 50 people(I actually marked the 51st)! I ended up befriending quite a few of them in the next few years, met one person I still know now because of joining that server, and then met all of my current friends and my current partner through or because of that one person. Now, I'm a co-owner of a public Discord server with my girlfriend(Alice, the person I have multiple links for across my site) and a nice group inside of this server of around 5-15 people that I'm pretty close with so I think everything the internet's put my through has been worth it to get here.
That was supposed to be a short history btw. I started writing it with the idea of "short history of how I got here" and wrote NINE PARAGRAPHS. SHORT HISTORY MY ASS.
